As the Archdiocese of New Orleans continues to grapple to declines in Catholic school enrollment, officials have announced they will close three elementary school campuses next year, all of which currently teach fewer than 200 students.

Holy Ghost in New Orleans, St. Agnes in Jefferson and Our Lady of Grace in Reserve will be shuttered after this school year, according to Catholic schools Superintendent Jan Lancaster.

“We want to offer the best in Catholic education to all families who want a Catholic education for their children,” Lancaster said in a statement. “At this point, after conversations with the pastors, principals, school leaders and others, we believe we are moving in the best direction possible to provide what is best for the children.”

Lancaster said her staff will work with families to help students transition to other schools.
