Dillard University has named a new board chairman and appointed five new members to its board, including several local executives, the school announced Friday.

Michael Jones, a 1982 Dillard graduate, took the helm of the school’s board May 9. He replaced Joyce Roché, a longtime board member who served as chairwoman since 2005 and led the school through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina’s devastation.

A partner in the law firm of Kirkland and Ellis in Washington, D.C., Jones has been on Dillard’s board since 2006. He is co-chairman of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

Dillard also appointed five new members to its board. They are Kim Boyle, a partner in the New Orleans law firm Phelps Dunbar; CNN legal analyst Sunny Hostin; Charles Rice, president and CEO of Entergy New Orleans; Carol Solomon, CEO of Peoples Health; and Matthew Wisdom, director and CEO of TurboSquid.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve my alma mater and to lead its reconstruction efforts,” Roché said.

in a statement. “Even in the darkest hour, I never gave up hope that Dillard would be back stronger than ever.”
