Students cleared out of St. Augustine High School, the predominantly African-American Roman Catholic high school in New Orleans’ 7th Ward, Wednesday morning after officials detected a gas leak, school officials said.

All students and staff were forced to leave the building, which is located in the 2600 block of A.P. Tureaud Avenue. There were no injuries.

The gas leak was detected near the school band’s rehearsal hall.

As of 10:53 a.m., Entergy was on the scene, along with the New Orleans Fire Department and the New Orleans Police Department, officials said. Parents have been alerted via the school’s emergency text messaging system.

Students and school staff were instructed to move to the back of the school’s yard as a safety precaution, as parents arrived to pick up their children.

The school will release more information as it becomes available.
