Eleanor McMain Secondary School in Uptown New Orleans was evacuated Wednesday after a burst pipe at a construction site on campus caused a gas leak, according to Orleans Parish School Board Superintendent Henderson Lewis Jr.

The school, located at 5712 S. Claiborne Ave., has been closed for the day. Buses are transporting students home by regular bus routes and parents can also sign-out students from school officials at the corner of Claiborne Ave. and Octavia St.

McMain will reopen Thursday.

The gas leak comes a day after Ursuline Academy, located next door, dismissed students early because of a broken water pipe. Ursuline was back in session Wednesday.
