St. Augustine High School, the predominantly African-American Roman Catholic high school in New Orleans’ 7th Ward, will resume classes Thursday after a gas leak Wednesday prompted an evacuation, officials announced.

The gas leak was detected near the school band’s rehearsal hall Wednesday morning. St. Augustine parents were instructed to pick up children via the school’s emergency text messaging system soon after. Staff, too, were instructed to leave.

After crews fixed the leak, Entergy New Orleans officials cleared the campus to reopen Thursday.

There were no injuries Wednesday at the A.P. Tureaud Avenue school building, officials said.
