The day after taking the oath of office for his second term in office, Mayor Mitch Landrieu had knee surgery Tuesday morning, a spokeswoman for his office said.
“The mayor wrapped up inaugural events (Monday) night at around 9:30 p.m. (Tuesday) morning at 5:30 a.m., he had a routine procedure on his knee,” Garnesha Crawford said. “By 9 a.m., he was on the phone with staff giving orders.”
The outpatient procedure was an arthroscopic surgery on Landrieu’s left knee to repair a medial meniscus tear. The injury was related to running.
Landrieu is working from home and is expected to return to City Hall on Thursday.
Landrieu was sworn into office for a second term Monday at the Saenger Theatre on Canal Street, following an interfaith service at St. Louis Cathedral.
