With six of 11 precincts reporting on the 10 mills of new property taxes in Westwego, voters are showing support for funding the fire department, while two propositions for water and sewer are lagging.

The 6-mill tax for maintenance, operation and new equipment for the Westwego Fire Department enjoys the support of voters, 61 percent to 39 percent .

The 2 mills each for water and sewer, however, are further behind 55 percent voting against.

If any of the millages don’t pass, the city will have to take a $600,000 bite out of the budget it passed in January, which anticipated the millages would be approved by voters.
