State Rep. Jared Brossett has pulled ahead in the race for the District D seat on New Orleans City Council, according to preliminary figures from the secretary of state’s office.

With 46 of 80 precincts reporting, Brossett has about 49 percent of the vote. Joseph Bouie Jr., a longtime Southern University at New Orleans professor and administrator, has about 43 percent.

Community organizer Dalton Savwoir Jr. is in third with about 8 percent.

All three candidates are Democrats and live in Gentilly. The district comprises Gentilly and parts of New Orleans East.
