Incumbent Councilwoman Susan Guidry took an early, but sizable lead as the first results rolled in for the race for City Council District A about 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
Guidry, a Democratic attorney from the Park View neighborhood, had 60 percent of the vote as the first 15 precincts out of 80 in the district reported their results Saturday night, according to WWL-TV.
Guidry’s four challengers lagged far behind in early results.
Stephen Gordon, a businessman who is not affiliated with a political party, was running second with 16 percent of the vote. Republican Drew Ward, who owns a linguistics company, had 14 percent of the vote, Democratic labor lawyer David Capasso had 8 percent and Democratic taxi contractor Jason Coleman had 4 percent of the vote.
