With four of 10 precincts reporting, Tina Miceli came out with an early lead against Eric Chatelain in the race for Harahan mayor.

Miceli had 57 percent of the vote, while Chatelain had 43 percent, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State.

Miceli is a political newcomer, making her first bid for elected office. Chatelain is a city councilman seeking to move to the city’s top position.

Miceli has said her status as a first-time public servant would not hinder her ability to lead Harahan since the veteran nurse has decades of experience dealing with bureaucracy as a healthcare provider.

For his part, Chatelain said his time on the council has prepared him to lead the city by giving him the political experience and insight into issues Harahan faces.
