With eight of 16 precincts reporting, Belle Chasse businessman and former four-term parish councilman Jerry Hodnett has 2,620 votes, or 41 percent of the vote.

Fellow Belle Chase Republican Amos Cormier Jr. has 1,702 votes, or 27 percent.

Democrat Byron Williams Jr., of Braithwaite, a businessman and former School Board member, has 992 votes, or 15 percent.

Democrat Burghart Turner, 50, a current councilman from Port Sulphur, has 618 votes, or 10 percent.

Lane Greco, 50, a Belle Chasse Republican and construction contractor, has 482 votes, or 8 percent.

The five men are vying to replace Billy Nungesser as parish president, who could not run again because of term limits and is running for Lieutenant Governor.

The runoff, if necessary, will be Dec. 6.
