With all 21 precincts reporting, Jefferson Parish School Board District 2 candidates Rickeem Jackson and Ricky Johnson are headed for a runoff on Dec. 6.
Pastor and construction inspector Ricky Johnson received 3,979 votes, or 38 percent, when the polls closed. Rickeem Jackson, the owner of a nonprofit for at-risk youth, came in close behind with 34 percent of the votes.
Both candidates edged out April Williams, who is retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs and is completing her doctorate in business administration.
Johnson is supported by the Jefferson Federation of Teachers and has benefited from campaign spending by the American Federation of Teachers. Jackson has the backing of the business groups that support the current board majority. Both candidates headed to the runoff are Democrats.
