Early election results show pastor and construction inspector Ricky Johnson leading in the District 2 race for the Jefferson Parish School Board so far, with five of 21 precincts reporting. With 1190 votes, Johnson is leading by 41 percent against Rickeem Jackson, the owner of a nonprofit for at-risk youth, and April Williams, who is retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs and is completing her doctorate in business administration.

Johnson is supported by the Jefferson Federation of Teachers and has benefited from campaign spending by the American Federation of Teachers. Jackson has the backing of the business groups that support the current board majority. Wiliams said she also supports reinstating the collective bargaining agreement All three candidates are Democrats.
