With 8 of 16 precincts reporting in Plaquemines Parish, businessman Jerry Hodnett continues to hold a slim lead over Amos Cormier Jr. 51-49 percent.
The two Belle Chasse Republicans are vying to replace Billy Nungesser as president of Plaquemines Parish.
Both are former parish councilmen who’ve pledged to fight for the lower insurance rates and coastal restoration and levee projects, along with speeding up the $111 million replacement of the Belle Chasse bridge and tunnel.
Cormier, a teacher, has run as an outsider against “the machine” while Hodnett has pledged to improve the relationship between the president and the council and increased transparency.
Hodnett finished first in the primary last month with 33 percent of the vote to Cormier’s 24 percent.
