Jefferson Parish Councilman Ricky Templet has been reelected to his District 1 seat over challengers Patrick Pierson and Scott Grindstaff with 64 percent of the vote.
Pierson finished second with 31 percent and Grindstaff finished third with 5 percent.
Templet received 10,002 votes, while Pierson got 4,846 and Grindstaff got 847.
Templet, 52, is a first-term councilman and former state legislator. He touted his involvement in flood protection, public safety, recreations and street light improvements over the last four years and said he’d continue to address issues important to the district if reelected.
Pierson, a Democrat and former chairman of the Jefferson Parish Housing Authority’s board, was critical of Templet’s tenure on the council during the campaign.
Grindstaff, who does not have a party affiliation, touted a technocratic approach focused on solving the district’s nagging problems, chiefly traffic congestion.
The district includes Terrytown, Gretna and the southernmost reaches of unincorporated West Jefferson.
