With all 40 precincts reporting, Algiers voters have renewed a 6.35-mill property tax by a margin of 54 percent to 46 percent.
The Louisiana Secretary of State reported 5,598 votes in favor of the renewal to 4,758 votes against.
The renewal, proposed by the The South Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-West, which oversees the Algiers Levee District, will keep total flood protection-related taxes in Algiers unchanged at 12.53 mills. That generates $2.4 million a year for operation and mainenance of the flood protection assets in Algiers.
A new tax of 5.5 mills in West Jefferson was rejected by voters Saturday night.
