Read columnist and photographer Steven Forster’s coverage of New Orleans’ social events at The New Orleans Advocate.
Events featured in this edition:
• All You Need is Love ... and Sunglasses: The Hotel Monteleone, sponsor and host hotel of the Broadway in New Orleans series, celebrated the Saenger Theatre’s production of “Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles” with its own twist on the British Invasion, transporting guests back to the early 1960s. Beatles fans flocked to hear the local eight-piece band Jubilation cover top Beatles hits in the hotel’s Carousel Bar. Partygoers received complimentary John Lennon tribute sunglasses, and guest judges selected the best Beatles-inspired costume. “The Hotel Monteleone turned down the opportunity to host the Beatles in 1964, so this is our second chance to embrace the British Invasion,” said Kent Wasmuth, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing.
• ‘Hustling’ at the Hi-Ho: The crowds flocked to hear DJ Soul Sister as she presented “Hustle” on the turntables at the Hi-Ho Lounge on St. Claude Avenue right after winning Offbeat’s Best of the Beat Award for best DJ. It was underground disco, rare groove, old school, boogie, true school hip hop, fusion jazz movers and groovers, more bounce to the ounce, and more fun for your bun with DJ Soul Sister at the table.
