CLINTON, Miss. — The No. 1- seeded LSU-Eunice softball team cruised to an opening-round win in the NJCAA National Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, scoring six runs in the third inning en route to a 12-4 victory over No. 16-seeded Murray State College.
“We came out ready to play,” coach Andy Lee said. “The first couple innings, we had to make adjustments. ... We swung the bats well. We kept our momentum, and in the end, we just out-slugged them.”
In that third inning, the Lady Bengals (58-5) sent 10 batters to the plate to break open the game, highlighted by a two-run single from Brooke Clark, a two-run double from Ashley Subervielle and an RBI single from Pam Wainwright.
The inning was capped by Codi Covington’s three-run homer to center field — the first of three home runs by the Lady Bengals.
LSU-Eunice added four more runs in the fourth inning
The Lady Bengals play at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against No. 9-seed Mercyhurst North East College, which improved to 44-10 on the year following its opening win against No. 8-seed Kankakee Community College.
