In Des Moines, Iowa, the New Orleans Zephyrs parlayed a leadoff triple into a five-run 13th inning to post a 10-5 victory at the Iowa Cubs on Monday night to move within a game of .500.

Kyle Skipworth’s first triple of the season started the rally against Iowa’s Eduardo Sanchez (0-1). After pinch hitter Chris Gutierrez walked, Kevin Mattison singled home Skipworth to make it 6-5.

After a Gil Velazquez walk, New Orleans (28-29) extended its lead when Bryan Petersen singled, scoring Gutierrez and Mattison. A Kevin Kouzmanoff walk, Jake Smolinski RBI single and Nick Green fielder’s choice pushed the lead to five runs.

The Zephyrs’ Adam Reifer handled the bottom of the inning to give reliever Zach Phillips (4-0) the victory after three scoreless innings of relief.

Zephyrs starter Duane Below allowed five runs — one earned — and seven hits in 4.2 innings, but the bullpen followed with 8.1 scoreless innings. Iowa’s Nick Struck allowed five runs and 10 hits in five innings.
