RUSTON — Boston Scott, Kam McKnight, Jaylon Ferguson and Alfred Smith made big plays to lead the Bulldogs (offense) to a 62-49 win over LA Tech (defense) in Saturday’s Louisiana Tech spring football game at Joe Aillet Stadium.
Smith caught four passes for 120 yards, McKnight reeled in 106 yards and a touchdown on four catches while Ferguson registered three sacks in four tackles. Scott led all players with 146 all-purpose yards (62 rushing, 84 receiving) and two TDs.
Ryan Higgins was 27-for-34 for 469 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions to lead all quarterbacks, while Price Wilson threw for 106 yards in an 11-for-22 performance with one touchdown.
Ferguson’s three sacks led the team, while Immanuel Turner and Courtney Wallace each registered two sacks apiece. The defense totaled nine sacks and five turnovers in the game, including a 57-yard interception return for a touchdown by Daryl Lewis.
GOLD 14, BLUE 0: In Lake Charles, Joe Lissard threw for 179 yards and a touchdown while Ryan Ross rushed for another to help lead the Gold team to a shutout win over the Blue in front of around 2,000 fans at McNeese’s spring game in Cowboy Stadium.
Free safety Andre Fuller had two interceptions for the Blue team.
Grant Ashcraft hit 11 of 23 passes for 82 yards for the Blue team, while Tyler Gaspard hit 5 of 6 targets for 44 yards with an interception.
Ross led all rushers with 36 yards on 12 carries, including an 11-yard touchdown scamper to close out the scoring.
PURPLE 21, ORANGE 17: In Natchitoches, quarterback Joel Blumenthal led two fourth-quarter scoring drives, getting the game-winning 1-yard touchdown run by De’Mard Llorens with 22 seconds left in the 27th Annual Joe Delaney Bowl.
Blumenthal, who was 8 of 13 for a game-high 122 yards and a touchdown, and Llorens, who accounted for 82 yards and two scores, shared the Purple Most Valuable Player Award.
Receiver Bobby Chan-Chan was the Orange MVP after a game-best 65 receiving yards on five catches, including a 5-yard touchdown on fourth down from J.D. Almond.
Ronald Perry topped everyone with 6½ tackles.
GOLD 25, MAROON 17: In Monroe, the Gold team scored 16 consecutive points en route to the win at Malone Stadium.
For the Gold team, Garrett Smith completed 11 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed seven times for 48 yards and one score. RJ Turner hauled in four passes for 61 yards to lead the Gold team. Cortez Sisco, Jr. notched six tackles and one sack to lead the Gold defense.
Tyler Cain led the Maroon with 118 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.
Donald Louis, Jr. and David Griffith led the defense with six tackles each.
