Add “interception returned for a touchdown in overtime” to the VooDoo’s list of frustrations in a challenging 2014 season.
Greg Carr returned an Adam Kennedy interception 48 yards for a touchdown Saturday night, giving the Orlando Predators a 70-64 victory at the Smoothie King Center.
The VooDoo, who have lost eight of nine, fell to 3-14, with only next Saturday’s season finale against San Antonio remaining. Orlando improved to 10-7 and clinched the South Division title.
Kennedy was 29-of-35 for 308 yards and seven touchdowns along with a 1-yard TD run. Four of his passing touchdowns went to receiver Larry Beavers; the others went to Courtney Smith, Carlese Franklin and Antonio Robinson.
Orlando overcame 16 penalties, two of which led to ejections. Quarterback Bernard Morris was 27-of-35 for 290 yards and six touchdowns, and he added three rushing scores. Kendal Thompkins had eight catches for 109 yards and two TDs.
Beavers put his name in the VooDoo record book by eclipsing the 2,000-yard mark in all-purpose yards this season. He finished the night with 132 receiving yards and 130 kick return yards to put him at 2,116 all-purpose, ranking fourth all-time in team history. Beavers scored five touchdowns on the night, adding a 57-yard kick return.
