MONROE - University of Louisiana at Monroe men’s basketball coach Keith Richard announced Tuesday that sophomores Ife Eke and Steven McClellan will redshirt during the 2011-12 season and each will have three years of eligibility remaining starting next season.

In addition, freshman D’Andre Martin has missed most of the preseason because of a paperwork issue, but should be cleared to play by the NCAA later this week. The Warhawks will play the season with eight scholarship players.

Eke suffered a season-ending injury by tearing his ACL in practice last week and is expected to have surgery. McClellan will sit out the season as a redshirt because of personal reasons.

UNO coach to make debut

LAKE CHARLES - UNO interim women’s basketball coach Keeshawn Carter will make her debut on Wednesday night as the Lady Privateers challenge defending Southland Conference champion McNeese State at 7 p.m. in an exhibition contest.
