NATCHITOCHES — Kevin Hill scored four of his nine points in the final two minutes to help UNO hold on and beat Northwestern State 102-99 in men’s college basketball Saturday to snap a three-game skid.

Erik Thomas had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead New Orleans (9-15, 5-8 Southland Conference). Travin Thibodeaux added 17 points and Nate Frye, Christavious Gill and Cameron Reed chipped in 14 apiece.

With the game tied at 96 with two minutes left, Hill made a layup and a pair of free throws and the Privateers led 100-97. Bailey Walker answered with a layup to pull the Demons to 100-99 with 42 seconds left.

Thomas added a pair of free throws, and the Demons’ Sabri Thompson missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer to end it.

Zeek Woodley scored 28 points to lead Northwestern State (7-17, 4-10). Ishmael Lane added 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Stephen F. Austin 88, Nicholls State 53: In Thibodaux, Clide Geffrard scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Stephen F. Austin.

Demetrious Floyd added 17 points for the Lumberjacks (20-5, 13-0 Southland), who have won 13 straight and are undefeated in conference play. Ty Charles had 16 points and Thomas Walkup netted his fifth double-double this season, scoring 10 points with 10 rebounds.

After a slow start for both teams, the Lumberjacks climbed to a 22-14 lead midway through the first half on C.J. Williams’ 3-point play. That sparked a 9-0 surge that extended their lead to 31-14 with 6:11 left in the half on their way to a 48-25 advantage at the break.

Adam Ward scored 13 points for the Colonels (7-20, 3-10).

WOMEN

Northwestern State 70, UNO 53: In Natchitoches, Beatrice Attura added four of her game-high 18 points during a 12-1 run spanning the late third and early fourth quarters that allowed the Lady Demons to break away..

Janelle Perez added 14 points and nine assists for Northwestern State (16-10, 10-5 Southland Conference).

Danielle Davis scored 17 points for UNO (7-16, 4-10). Freshman center Shania Woods added 13 points and six rebounds.

Stephen F. Austin 89, Nicholls 67: In Thibodaux, Taylor Ross with 21 points, six assists and six steals to pace Stephen F. Austin (15-10, 9-5 Southland).

Hope Pawlowski scored 14 points off the bench for Nicholls (8-16, 6-8). Cassidy Barrios had 13 points, Tia Charles added 12 and five steals, and Marina Lilly had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
