Xavier men’s basketball earned an at-large bid to the NAIA Division I National Championship, and will face Hope International on Thursday, March 19 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Xavier (24-9), which finished second in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular season and tournament, has qualified for nationals five consecutive seasons, a school record.
SUNO women’s basketball (21-4), the winners of the GCAC regular season title and women’s tournament, will play Vanguard (Calif.) on Wednesday, March 18 at the Independence Events Center in Independence, Missouri. Also qualifying was Loyola women’s basketball (27-3), winners of the Southern States Athletic Conference women’s tournament. The Wolf Pack will play Great Falls (Mont.), also next Wednesday.
SUNO and Loyola earned automatic bids by winning their conference tournaments.
SUNO is playing at NAIA nationals for the third time in school history, aiming to win its first game at the tournament. Loyola earned its seventh trip. Last season, Loyola advanced to the NAIA quarterfinals.
