Two Grambling players have been named Southwestern Athletic Conference football players of the week for their efforts in Saturday’s 26-23 win at Jackson State.
Sophomore running back Dawrence Roberts was named SWAC offensive player of the week after rushing for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 23 attempts. Roberts had touchdown runs of 76 and 10 yards.
Senior kicker Zoltan Riazzo was named special teams player of the week after connecting on field goals from 48 and 45 yards and getting two kickoff touchbacks.
Alabama A&M defensive end Corey Hart was defensive player of the week with 10 tackles (seven solo), four tackles-for-loss (29 yards) and three sacks (21 yards) in the a 28-14 win over Alcorn State.
ALDREDGE EARNS SCHOLARSHIP: In Natchitoches senior tight end Justin Aldredge was awarded Northwestern State’s Jack Clayton Scholarship in recognition of his academic and athletic achievements.
Aldredge is a business administration major with a 3.90 grade point average. He leads the Demons in receptions (30) and receiving yards (402) with two touchdown catches. He also has a 33-yard run for a touchdown as a tailback. He has caught a pass in 13 straight games and in 30 of his 31 games as a tight end.
Last year he was a second-team All-Southland Conference selection. He was a first-team Preseason All-Southland pick this year.
