Baton Rouge’s Peter Mata returned from a three-year Louisiana USSSA Junior Golf Tour hiatus to win the boys 15-18 age division at the recent Mizuno Gobbler Classic IV at Santa Maria Golf Club

Mata shot 149 to take the crown and snap a three-tournament win streak by Alexandria’s Charlie Flynn, who finished one stroke behind to claim runner-up honors. Zac Ciesla of Lake Charles (160) finished third.

Carson Caruso of Greenwell Springs shot a 148 to win the boys 12-14 age division and his first USSSA championship. Brandon Rogillio Jr. of Baton Rouge (158) finished second, followed by Alexandria’s Chance Queen (166).

In the boys 9-11 division, Baton Rouge’s Ryan Dupuy outlasted seven other golfers to take the title. Dupuy shot 38 in both rounds of the 18-hole tournament to take home the title. Logan A. Batiste of Slidell, and Bryce Sutterfield of Oakdale tied for second place by shooting 82.

Emily Lucas of Crowley won girls 15-18 division with a 167. Runner-up Whitley Moore of Baton Rouge shot 192.

Liza Lapeyre of New Orleans took top honors in the girls 9-11 divisions, winning on her first tour start by shooting 102. Runner-up Alexis Gonzalez of Baton Rouge shot 108.
