LAFAYETTE - Scotlandville High senior guard-forward Cleveland Thomas signed with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette during a small ceremony held at the school.

The 6-foot-4 Thomas averaged 17 points and nine rebounds a game last season, helping the Hornets advance to the Class 5A title game.

At ULL, he’ll join his brother, J.J. Thomas, another former Scotlandville standout, who became a top player for the Cajuns a year ago as a true freshman.

McGhee signs

Charleston, Ill. - Eastern Illinois announced the signing of three playersm including former Istrouma High standout Ronald McGhee.

The 6-6 McGhee is playing this season at Kansas-based Dodge City Community College where he is averaging 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists to date. McGhee played his freshman year at Paris JC in Texas. He averaged 22.4 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game as a senior at Istrouma and was was recently named a Top 100 player nationally by JUCO Junction.

MSU baseball adds four

Lake Charles - McNeese announced the signing of fourplayers, including three junior college pitchers.

Among the right-handers signed by the Cowboys was Baton Rouge Community College’s Steven O’Bryant, a former Central Private standout. Nick Alexiou of Panola College and Michael Desabrais of Mesa Community College are the others. McNeese also signed catcher Cameron Toole of Bishop Moore Catholic of Orlando.

ULM baseball adds four

Also in Monroe, ULM signed baseball head coach Jeff Schexnaider announced the signing of four baseball players including Zachary High infielder Tanner Hebert. The other signees were Christo Jones (right-handed pitcher) from Gulf Coast State College, Josh Leone (RHP) from

Calvary Baptist (La.) HS and Kodie Tidwell (infielder) from West Ouachita (La.) High School.

ULM soft adds three

Monroe - The ULM softball team announced the signing of Louisiana natives and teammates Courtney Dutreix, Amye Barre and Hope Mair. Dutreix, Barre and Mair are all from Hahnville High and were members of the Tigers 5A championship team last spring.

The trio also plays on the Louisiana Déj? Vu club team together under head coach Bennett.

Tatarko signs

Another announcement in Monroe had Kansas native Sarah Tatarko’s signing to play volleyball for ULM next year.

The 5-10 Tatarko is a setter and right-side hitter from Manhattan, Kan., and was instrumental in leading Manhattan High to its fourth Class 6A State Championship in 2010 and first since 2003.

Warhawks add two

In Monroe, University of Louisiana at Monroe announced the signing of high school seniors Kyle Koszuta and Taylor Birchett to men’s basketball national letters of intent. Koszuta and Birchett are the first two players to sign with the Warhawks for the 2012-13 season.

Koszuta, a 6-1 point guard, attends Niceville High School in Niceville, Fla. Birchett, a 6-4 shooting guard, attends Roswell High in Roswell, Ga.

Techsters land Hall

In Ruston, Louisiana Tech’s women’s basketball program announced the signing of 6-2 forward Veanca Hall, of Monroe’s Richwood High.

Hall helped lead the Rams to the District 2-3A title and the state playoffs last season. She joins Benton guard Lulu Perry and Palm Beach State College guard Janay Borum in the early class.
