CLINTON, Miss. — Top-ranked LSU-Eunice opened the NJCAA Division II college softball World Series with a 16-0 mercy-rule win over Mott Community College Wednesday at Traceway Park.

LSU-Eunice built a 7-0 lead before erupting for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

No. 4 seed LSUE (53-7) will face Des Moines Area Community College, a 9-0 winner over Florence Darlington Technical College, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Jessica Thomas finished 1-for-3 with a grand slam and seven RBIs, while Maddie Edmonston of St. Amant went 2-for-3 with a home run.

Also, Rebecca Skains went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs, Darby Bishop went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, and Alli Daigle of Notre Dame went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Abigail Leonards of Iota earned the win, striking out five, walking two and allowing two hits over four innings.
