The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Baton Rouge will benefit from Saturday’s second-annual Marucci Live, a gala set for the Baton Rouge River Center that will feature 19-time All- Star and Hall of Fame shortstop Cal Ripkin Jr. and as many as 20 more major leaguers and former LSU players.

Marucci is a bat company started by LSU trainer Jack Marucci.

Marucci CEO Reed Dickens said Marucci Live is designed to honor the baseball players “for their achievements both on and off the field,” to raise money for the local Boys & Girls Clubs and to “highlight baseball moments and milestones of 2011.”

Among the top major leaguers confirmed to attend are Baton Rougean Chad Durbin, former Seattle and Cincinnati All-Star outfielder Ken Griffey Jr., Harold Reynolds, Jose Cruz Jr., Geoff Jenkins, Ryan Vogelsong, Lake Charles’ Casey Daigle and his wife star softball player Jennie Finch and Lafayette’s Paul Bako.

Added to the list are former LSU stars like World Series champs Ryan Theriot and Brian Wilson, current and former major leaguers Ben McDonald, Brian Tallet and Louis Coleman and pro players Anthony Raunado, Micah Gibbs and Jared Mitchell, and this year’s first-round draft pick Mikie Mahtook.

The fete includes a live panel discussion with these players, cocktails, dinner and live and silent auctions.

VIP tables, general tables, individual seats and grandstand seating range in price from $2,500 (VIP seating for 10) to $30.

“Red carpet” seating begins at 5:30 p.m.
