FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Chris Johnson said his surgically repaired right knee is feeling “good,” but it will likely keep the New York Jets running back from participating in organized team activities and minicamp the next few weeks.
Johnson said Thursday that he started running straight ahead this week and is “close to 100 percent.”
Signed by New York to a two-year, $8 million deal in April, Johnson had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee in January. He played through the injury with Tennessee last season, but expects to be ready in time to fully participate in training camp.
Bengals sign QB McCarron
CINCINNATI — Alabama star quarterback A.J. McCarron signed Thursday with the Cincinnati Bengals.
A fifth-round selection, McCarron led the Crimson Tide to two national championships, setting several school passing records. But his arm strength was questioned by many pro teams, and he slid to 164th overall in the draft. McCarron will be a backup to four-year veteran Andy Dalton.

The moves leave third-round running back Jerick McKinnon as the only unsigned draft pick.
Police issue warrant for Ward
DENVER — Police have issued an arrest warrant for Broncos safety T.J. Ward on an assault charge stemming from a fight at a Denver strip club May 9.
The Broncos issued a statement saying, “We have been aware of this issue and will continue to review all of the facts.”
Court records show the disturbance happened at PT’s All Nude. Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson did not know details of the incident but described it as “some type of disturbance at a nightclub.” He said Ward will be charged with a misdemeanor count of assault.
Ward is coming off a Pro Bowl season in Cleveland and this spring signed a four-year, $22.5 million deal with Denver.
