PAPILLION, Neb. — Kevin Mattison drilled a pair of home runs as the New Orleans Zephyrs won for the sixth time in their last eight games, defeating the Omaha Storm Chasers 8-4 Friday at Werner Park.

Mattison led the game off with a solo home run to left — the second time this season a Zephyrs opened the game with a home run. Gorkys Hernandez drilled a homer on July 8 against Iowa.

The Chasers answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

Mattison gave the Z’s a 3-2 lead in the second inning with a two-run shot to right field — for the first multi-home run night of Mattison’s career.

The Zephyrs (67-67) tied a season high with six doubles, including three in the fifth inning to score a pair of runs and extend the lead to 6-2.

Omaha fought back with a pair of runs in the seventh inning, and the Z’s added a pair in the eighth inning to make it 8-4.

Mattison led the club with three RBIs, and Jake Smolinski had three hits and two doubles.

Elih Villanueva earned the win, giving up four runs on seven hits in six-plus innings. Felipe Paulino allowed six runs on nine hits to get the loss. Zach Phillips went the final 2.2 innings to earn his first save.

The Chasers maintained a two-game lead on Memphis in the North Division for first place with a 66-68 record.
