Baton Rouge Community College scored five times in the first inning and cruised to an 11-0 victory in Game 2 of the best-of-seven Region XXIII championship series Wednesday at Pete Goldsby Field.

The series is tied at one game apiece.

“Today was the day we hit the baseball I really felt like we were capable of hitting it,” BRCC coach L.J. Dupuy said. “The guys did a good job of squaring up balls, and of course it made all the difference.”

Tré Bailey scored the game’s first run on an infield error, which also allowed Layton Laird to reach base. Nick Morgan then scored on a groundout before designated hitter Mark Traylor launched a two-run homer. Zach Zimmer reached base on a triple and scored on a double by Logan Rogers to give the Bears an early 5-0 lead.

Delgado scored its lone run of the day in the second inning when Owen Magee tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a groundout by Ryan Taylor.

The Bears added five more runs in the second, thanks in part to a two-run homer by Morgan, and one run in the fourth.

The game was shortened to five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The teams meet again at 3 p.m. Saturday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
