Williams, who completed 14 of 19 for 253 yards for Grambling (6-4, 5-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference), found Mario Louis for a 34-yard score at the end of the eight-play drive. On the play before the touchdown, Williams completed an 11-yarder to Louis on fourth-and-7.
Texas Southern (4-6, 2-6) got the ball back at its 20 and drove to the Grambling 4 on completions of 11, 25 and 23 yards by Riko Smalls and runs of 12 and 5 yards by the quarterback. Smalls was sacked for a 10-yard loss by Cliff Exama on third down and his fourth-down pass was incomplete.
Smalls completed 31 of 50 for 384 yards and three touchdowns.
JACKSON STATE 34, ALABAMA A&M 6: In Huntsville, Ala., Casey Therriault threw for 428 yards and four straight touchdowns as Jackson State defeated Alabama A&M, snapping the Bulldogs’ seven-game winning streak.
The Tigers (8-2, 6-2) trailed 6-0 after Chance Wilson kicked field goals of 49 and 45 yards. Then Therriault threw a 7-yard TD pass to Renty Rollins with 2:33 left in the first quarter, followed by a 30-yarder to E.J. Drewery just 42 seconds into the second. He hit Rico Richardson with a 67-yarder to take a 21-6 lead into halftime.
Therriault, who was 23 of 41 with no interceptions, threw his final scoring pass, a 15-yarder to Rollins, with 8:59 left in the third quarter.
Jackson State rolled up 547 yards total offense compared to 301 for Alabama A&M (7-3, 6-2). Bulldogs quarterback Deaunte Mason was 18 of 46 for 243 yards and had 11 carries for 33 yards.
PRAIRIE VIEW 40, ALCORN STATE 14: In Lorman, Miss., Jerry Lovelocke threw for two touchdowns and the Prairie View defense forced three turnovers and held Alcorn State to 99 total rushing yards.
The Panthers (5-5, 5-3), whose win kept them tied for first in the league, rushed for 223 yards with three running backs notching a touchdown. Le’Darryae Grover (95 yards), Fred Anderson (45 yards) and Courtney Brown (39 yards) led the Panthers’ rushing attack. All three scored rushing TDs.
Terrance Lewis put ASU (2-7, 1-7) ahead 7-6 on a 92-yard kickoff return for a score, but it was all Prairie View from there.
Lovelocke, who passed for 164 yards with an interception, threw touchdowns of 22 and 10 yards during a span of 27 straight points by the Panthers. Chris King added a 65-yard interception return for a score.
