NATCHITOCHES — Tennessee-Martin turned in a season-best shooting effort, led by a 30-point performance by Alex Anderson, who made 7 of 10 3-pointers, in a 104-79 win over Northwestern State on Thursday in a first-round Tournament basketball matchup.

The Skyhawks (19-12) hit 9 of their first 12 shots after halftime, scoring the first 15 points in a 23-5 run that doomed the Demons (19-13), who trailed 52-44 at halftime.

Deville Smith had a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists, going 3 of 5 on 3-pointers. It was the 19th triple-double in major college basketball this season. Marshun Newell scored 18 points, sinking 4 of 9 3-pointers with four steals.

The Demons’ Jalan West posted his ninth career 30-point game with 34 points, including 8 of 14 on 3-pointers, and matched his career best with 10 rebounds.

The Demons got 12 points by Tony Dobbinson and 10 apiece from Marvin Frazier and Sabri Thompson.
