Sky Sox 8, Zephyrs 0
Colorado Springs, Colo. — The Colorado Springs Sky Sox shutout the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-0 on Saturday at Security Service Field.
Tyler Matzek (3-2) pitched five innings allowing four hits, walked four and earned the win for Colorado Springs. The win did not come easy as the Zephyrs missed out on plenty of scoring opportunities. Matzek loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs. He struckout Justin Bour and Kyle Jensen and induced a soft liner from Jake Marisnick to short to end the inning.
The Z’s left 11 men on base and were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Zephyrs were shutout for the fifth time this season.
Colorado Springs scored runs in each of the first four innings to take a 5-0 lead. Matt Montgomery (0-4) took the loss. The Sox scored three in the eighth to cap off the night.
The Z’s tied a season high with three errors and have nine errors in the series.
The Zephyrs conclude a four game series in Colorado Springs on Sunday at 2:35 p.m.
The Zephyrs will start RHP Elih Villanueva (3-2, 2.44 ERA) against Colorado Springs LHP Yohan Flande (0-6, 4.91).
