Mark Stevens shot a 7 under 65 to take the lead at the Adams Tour Merrill Lynch Open at Santa Maria on Wednesday.

Rain suspended play with about half of the golfers completing the first round. Play will resume at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Casey Clendenon finished one shot back of Stevens with a 6-under 66. Clendenon is tied with Bobby Massa, who was at 6-under through nine holes before rain suspended play.

Cole Moreland, Daniel Hoff, Scott Roudebush and Mark Walker all finished at 5 under.

Adams Tour money leader Lance Lopez shot a 1 under 71 through nine holes. He’s in a tie for 37th.

The $125,000 tournament continues Thursday and runs through Saturday.
