LAS VEGAS - Louisiana Tech has been projected to finish fourth in the Western Athletic Conference this season in both the coaches and media preseason polls released by the league office Thursday morning.

Louisiana Tech is entering its second season under coach Sonny Dykes and is forecast to improve on last season’s marks of 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

Hawaii, which shared the title with Nevada and former WAC member Boise State last year, was the preseason choice in both polls.

The Warriors received five first-place votes and 47 points from the coaches and 18 first-place votes and 292 points in the media rankings.

Fresno State and Nevada finished 2-3 in both polls, which also agreed on projected finishes for Utah State (5th), Idaho (6th), San Jose State (7th) and New Mexico State (8th).

Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz is the preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and Utah State linebacker Bobby Wagner the preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

The preseason polls were released as media, coaches and select student-athletes convened in Las Vegas for the 2011 WAC Media Days.
