Belton, Texas — Quarterback LiDarral Bailey ran for two touchdowns and passed for three more, and second-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor scored 42 points in the first half en route to a 59-20 win over Louisiana College in the first round of the NCAA Division III football playoffs Saturday afternoon.
Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-0) advances to the second round of the postseason for the ninth straight season. The Cru will face Franklin College (9-2), which beat Adrian College 48-10.
It was the first NCAA postseason appearance for Louisiana College (8-3).
Bailey scored on a 7-yard run on Mary Hardin-Baylor’s opening drive, then completed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Coker two minutes later to give the Cru a 14-0 lead.
Bailey added a 23-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and an 18-yard touchdown pass to Darius Wilson in the second to push the lead to 28-0.
Bailey finished the game with 124 rushing yards and was 17-of-22 passing for 267 yards.
Wilson scored three touchdowns — two rushing and one receiving — and had 80 total yards, and Kamray Runnels had five catches for 67 yards for UMHB. Javicz Jones led the UMHB defense with 12 tackles and an interception.
Louisiana College quarterback Jamie Bunting was 28-for-45 passing for 310 yards and two scores, but he was also intercepted four times. Ryan Montague rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, and had six catches for 60 yards and another score. Kyle Galyon caught seven passes for 85 yards.
Nate Janzen had a 13 tackles and Dominic Graham added 12 stops for LC.
UMHB outgained LC 407-216 in the first half and held the Wildcats to just six first downs. For the game, the Cru outgained the Wildcats 674-432 and forced five turnovers, but gave the ball away three times on second-half fumbles. The teams combined for 23 penalties for 168 yards.
