OXFORD, Miss. — Baylee Corbello allowed only one hit, and the LSU softball team scored three runs in the first inning to take a 3-1 win over Ole Miss on Saturday at the Ole Miss softball complex.
One out after A.J. Andrews drew a lead-off walk, Sahvannah Jaquish hit an RBI double to leflt-center for the Tigers (30-20, 10-10 Southeastern Conference). Bianka Bell followed with a two-run homer, her ninth of the season.
Ole Miss (22-27, 3-17) stranded seven runners on base and became the first team all-season LSU has held to consecutive one-hit outings.
“It wasn’t our best game, but I’m happy to come away with a win,” LSU coach Beth Torina said. “I think they did a good job of playing defense, and ultimately that’s what kept us in the game.”
Cajuns blank UTA twice: In Arlington, Texas, Lexie Elkins drove in five runs and Gabby Felps had five hits as No. 16 Louisiana-Lafaeytte swept the UT Arlington 7-0 and 13-0 in a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field.
Christina Hamilton (20-1, won Game 1 for the Cajuns (37-7-1, 15-1 Sun Belt). In Game 2, Victoria Brown (4-1) struck out a season-high five batters.
UT-Arlington is 20-28, 4-11.
LSU-Eunice 19, BRCC 1: Host LSU Eunice wrapped its regular season with a win over Baton Rouge Communiaty College.
Sophomores Brooklynn Clark, Ashley Subervielle, Carey Alexis, Caitlen Blanchard, Morgan Tauzin, Emily Nolan and Codi Covington combined for 16 of the team’s 23 hits with 12 RBIs for the Lady Bengals (55-2).
Sophomore Elizabeth Delafield earned the win, allowing two hits and one run while striking out two in three innings.
LSU Eunice has 12 days off before they begin play in the NJCAA Region 23 tournament.
