Former Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench, a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will visit Baton Rouge on Thursday to help educate people on the benefits of joint replacement.
Bench will share his hip replacement experience with attendees at the Baton Rouge Patient Seminar, which will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Executive Center, 4728 Constitution Ave.
Pre-registration is requested for the event. To register, or for more information, call (888) 787-9537 or visit the website http://www.aboutstryker.com/seminars.
Bench is widely regarded as one of the greatest catchers in major league history. A member of Reds’ teams that won the World Series in 1975 and ’76, he starred from 1967-83 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989.
Bench underwent total replacement of his right hip in April 2004 after suffering for years from chronic joint pain and received a Stryker hip implant.
Since then, he’s shared his joint replacement experience with attendees at Stryker educational seminars across the country and had his left hip replaced in February 2010.
Bench will be accompanied by local orthopedic surgeons Neils Linschoten, Craig Greene, Kevin Riche, Scott Petrie and Robert Easton.
