BROUSSARD — John Sams of Coushatta fired a 5-under-67 to take the lead after one round at the Louisiana Golf Association Amateur Championship on Thursday at Le Triomphe Golf & Country Club.
Four other golfers are at 4-under-68: Brandon Aydlett of Metairie, Grady Brame Jr. of Hammond, Myles Lewis of Baton Rouge and defending champion Eric Ricard of Shreveport.
Sams, a rising sophomore at Louisiana Tech, shot a four-under par 32 on the front nine. Overall he had just one bogey.

Round 2 play will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the No. 1 and 10 tees. The field will be cut to the low 60 scorers and ties after the second round.
