THIBODAUX — Nicholls State rallied for five runs in the sixth inning Saturday, defeating Southeastern Louisiana, 5-3, in a Southland Conference baseball game at Ray E. Didier Field.

Southeastern (28-20, 13-10 Southland) built a 2-0 lead through five innings on Kennon Menard’s RBI ground out in the second and consecutive two-out singles in the fourth by Daniel Midyett, Brett Hoffman and Menard.

In the sixth, Nicholls (26-22, 16-7) took over with five runs, keyed by David Zorn’s two-run triple.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game will be carried on KSLU-FM, 90.9.

McNeese State 10, UNO 8, 14 innings: Cameron Toole hit an RBI single to break an 8-8 tie in the top of the 14th inning, and Andrew Guillotte followed with an RBI single down the third base line to give McNeese State the Southland Conference win at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark.

UNO (11-31, 2-21 Southland) had a chance to end the game in the 13th inning after loading the bases with one out. With the infield drawn in, Mitchell Alexander hit a ground ball that was stopped on a dive by Chayse Marion, who threw home to get the force out. Reese Kanter then hit a fly ball in foul territory that was nabbed by right fielder James Cantu on a sliding catch.

The Privateers finished with 18 hits, led by Jonathan Santana and Hezekiah Randolph, who each had four hits. Dane Landry went 3-for-7 for his first multihit game.

The Cowboys (26-21, 15-8) were led by Marion, who went 2-for-6 with three RBIs and two runs. Lucas Quary had three hits in eight at-bats. McNeese won despite stranding 22 runners and leaving the bases loaded in three of the first four innings.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday. Daniel Martinez gets the call for the Privateers, and Bryce Kingsley will throw for McNeese.
