Wada, 33, pitched in the Japanese League from 2003-2011 with the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks. He was the league’s Rookie of the Year and a four-time All-Star.

However, he has a history of elbow injuries.

He had signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 2011, but had Tommy John surgery in May, 2012, costing him that season. He was signed by the Cubs in December.

Wada has an unorthodox delivery to make up for average speed on his fastball (85-92 mph). He has a deceptive arm swing and release points. He complements his fast ball with a solid slider and changeup and has good command of his pitches.

Early in his career, he was known to give up a lot of home runs, but since 2005 has allowed fewer each season.
