THIBODAUX — Altee Tenpenny, who joined the Nicholls State football team in August, died Tuesday night after a car crash in Mississippi, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

“On behalf of the players, coaches, and all of us at the University, we are extremely saddened by the news of the passing of Altee Tenpenny,” Nicholls coach Tim Rebowe said.

Tenpenny, 20, joined the Nicholls program in preseason camp after playing two years at Alabama. Following a brief stint with UNLV, Tenpenny — a top-rated recruit coming out of North Little Rock High School — made his way to Thibodaux but was suspended by the team.

The accident occurred in Glen Allan, Miss., about 170 miles from North Little Rock, his hometown.

According to a reports, he was rushed to Delta Regional Medical Center where he died from injuries suffered from the crash.

According to a report from The Courier, Tenpenny was arrested Sunday and charged with obstructing public passage, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities and illegal carrying of weapon in presence of CDS (felony).
