The University of Louisiana at Lafayette baseball team opens its midweek schedule Tuesday night at McNeese State before hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday.
Tuesday’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. in Lake Charles, with ULL left-hander Kody Smith (0-2, 4.86 ERA) set to face a starter from McNeese (19-18) to be determined. Wednesday’s game, to be played at 6 p.m. at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field, matches ULL righty Matt Plitt (2-0, 4.15) and southpaw Jordan Hymel (5-3, 3.71) of Southeastern (26-15).
The Cajuns (27-13) will try to complete season sweeps in both games. They scored runs in three straight at-bats in the seventh inning to erase a 5-4 deficit and prevail 8-5 against visiting McNeese on April 2. ULL erased a 3-0 deficit in Hammond on March 26 by scoring seven runs in the middle innings on the way to a 9-6 triumph that snapped a nine-game losing streak to SLU.
ULL is coming off a series victory against Florida Atlantic that boosted the Cajuns to 10-8 in Sun Belt play. The Cajuns have reached double digits in hits in 12 of their past 18 games; ULL is slugging .521 since April 1.
McNeese, which dropped a series at Nicholls State over the weekend, is batting .266 with 11 home runs and 60 doubles. Southeastern just dropped two of three to Stephen F. Austin; the Lions are hitting .268 with nine homers and 57 doubles.
