LAKE CHARLES - Saturday’s game between McNeese State and Sam Houston State couldn’t get much bigger.

It’s homecoming for the Cowboys, they’re taking on the nation’s No. 7 ranked team and Southland Conference leader, and they need a win to stay in the SLC race.

It’s the first time since 2001 the Cowboys (3-3, 2-1) will play a ranked team on homecoming. SHSU is 6-0, 3-0.

The Cowboys face a team that ranks first in the conference in nearly every offensive and defensive category.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. in Cowboy Stadium.

MEMPHIS AT TULANE: In New Orleans, interim coach Mark Hutson leads the Green Wave against Conference USA foe Memphis in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for homecoming.

Kickoff is slated for 2:40 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox College Sports.

Hutson replaces Bob Toledo, who resigned on Tuesday.

The Green Wave is 2-5 on the year, 1-2 in C-USA play and looking to snap a four-game losing streak. Memphis comes in at 1-6, 0-3.

STEPHEN F. AUSTIN AT NICHOLLS STATE: In Thibodaux, the Colonels host Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin at John L. Guidry Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Both teams look for their first conference win and first victory since their season openers. Nicholls (1-6, 0-3 SLC) suffered its sixth consecutive loss last weekend, falling 47-7 at Sam Houston State.

The Lumberjacks (1-5, 0-2), who had an open date last week, also lost to Bearkats in their last outing, 45-10.

ULM AT NORTH TEXAS: With a 28-point victory over Troy in the rearview mirror, the Warhawks hit the road to take on North Texas at 4 p.m. Saturday.

ULM (2-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) will bring the league’s top defense into the matchup with North Texas (2-5, 1-2). The Warhawks have held Sun Belt opponents to 235.5 total yards per game, 35.0 rushing yards and 17.0 points per game.

SBC opponents are averaging just 47.0 yards in the second half.

The Warhawks offense is ranked second in the league, averaging 445.0 yards against SBC foes and fourth in scoring averaging 28.5 points per game.
