LAFAYETTE — Mansa El scored 20 points and had nine rebounds to lead the University of South Alabama to a 53-43 win over the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Sun Belt Conference women’s basketball Wednesday night at Earl K. Long Gym.

El also had four assists for the Lady Jaguars (10-6, 3-4).

The host Ragin’ Cajuns (7-9, 1-6) held a 34-30 lead with 14:07 left in the game. But South Alabama went on a 15-0 run to take a 45-34 lead with 8:00 remaining.

ULL did not get closer than within six points after that.

El scored eight points during the six-minute run, and Mary Nixon scored five of her eight points in that span.

Sylvana Okde scored 14 points and had six rebounds for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Kia Wildridge added 12 ponts and seven rebounds, while Adrienne Prejean and Jasmin Mills each had six rebounds.

Ronneka Roberstson lead South Alabama with 13 rebounds, including nine on defense. She scored eight points and had two assists.

South Alabama led by as many as nine in the first half at 22-13, but ULL closed the gap to 24-20 by halftime.
