LAKE CHARLES —Zach Conque totaled four touchdowns as Stephen F. Austin upset McNeese State 31-16 on Saturday night.
McNeese State, ranked 6th in the FCS and sharing the lead in the Southland Conference before the game, could not stay with the Lumberjacks as SFA (7-3, 4-2 SLC) stretched a 5-point halftime lead to a 31-9 advantage in the fourth.
SFA’s Gus Johnson, who averages 138.9 yards per game, was held to just 32 yards on 22 carries by McNeese (6-3, 4-2), but the Cowboys could not stop Conque and his receiving corps. Conque joined the corps when he caught a pass from wide receiver Tyler Boyd for the first score. He then passed for three touchdowns, throwing for 201 yards and also rushed for 31 yards.
Tyler Bolfing threw for 198 yards and one touchdown for McNeese.

The Wildcats, trailing 27-10, were on Northwestern State’s 3 early in the fourth quarter when Marion Chapman recovered a McKenzie fumble to stop that drive.
LOUISIANA COLLEGE 26, SUL ROSS STATE 25:In Alpine, Texas, Louisiana College trailed by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter but sealed the win when LC linebacker Beau Brewer sacked Derrick Bernard with 20 seconds at the LC 14-yard line and recovered a fumble to seal the win.
Sul Ross (1-8, 0-4 American Southwest) took a 19-14 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter when James Davis hit Steven Savedra with a 3-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion pass by Davis failed, however.
Sul Ross extended the lead to 25-14 with 9:12 to go when Bernard hit Cordrick Mobley on a 33-yard touchdown pass after an Easton Melancon interception. The Wildcats blocked the extra point — their second blocked PAT of the game.
Ira Jewitt took the ensuing kickoff 100 yards to cut the lead to 25-20, and Lobos punter Stephen Slater was ruled down at his team’s 5 after dropping to a knee to field a punt. The Wildcats (5-4, 3-1) took the lead on Shed Davis’ 5-yard touchdown run on an end-around. The Cats tried for two again, but Melancon’s pass was incomplete to set up the finish.
