BALTIMORE — Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams agreed to terms Saturday on a new five-year contract that comes with $32 million in guaranteed money.
Williams’ agent, Vincent Taylor, said Williams will receive an $8.5 million signing bonus. The sixth-year veteran will receive an average salary of $13.2 million, and the $66 million deal provides for an additional $11.25 million in guaranteed money if he gets injured.
Taylor said the contract is the largest in NFL history for an offensive tackle.
The 27-year-old Williams was selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons. He was drafted fourth overall in 2010 out of Oklahoma.
QB DALTON LEAVES GAME: Quarterback Andy Dalton scored on a keeper that completed Cincinnati’s opening drive against the Chicago Bears on Saturday night, then left the game with a sore neck.
Dalton had players piled on top of him after his 1-yard touchdown dive. He got up and spiked the ball, then came to the sideline. The Bengals announced that he had a neck injury. Dalton walked along the sideline with his helmet off, but didn’t go for treatment.
COBB, BULAGA, HYDE HURT: Green Bay receiver Randall Cobb left Saturday’s game against the Eagles with a shoulder injury after landing on his right arm while trying to catch a pass near the sideline.
He is the second starting wideout to get hurt for the Packers in preseason action. Jordy Nelson was lost for the season with a right knee injury last Sunday against Pittsburgh.
Right tackle Bryan Bulaga left late in the first quarter with a left ankle injury. Safety Micah Hyde climbed on to a cart on the sideline late in the second quarter to be treated in the locker room for a neck injury.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the NFL MVP, didn’t play.
DE BRANCH SUFFERS KNEE INJURY: Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Andre Branch will miss “significant time” early in the season after spraining a ligament in his left knee.
The Jaguars made the announcement Saturday, one day after Branch injured his knee in a preseason game against Detroit. Branch sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee early in the game, when teammate Aaron Colvin landed on him.
It’s the latest setback for Jacksonville’s defensive line, which already is without rookie defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks.
ROOKIE DL WILLIAMS HURT: New York Jets first-round draft pick Leonard Williams has left the team’s preseason game against the Giants with a knee injury and is questionable to return.
It wasn’t immediately certain when the defensive lineman was injured Saturday, but he was seen limping to the Jets’ locker room in the first half.
Williams, the No. 6 overall pick out of USC, is expected to be a major part of coach Todd Bowles’ defense. He has been starting in place of Sheldon Richardson, who is suspended for the first four games of the regular season after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
