RLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers have interviewed internal candidates Mike Maddux and Steve Buechele in their search for a new manager.
The team said in a statement that Maddux, the club’s pitching coach, and Buechele interviewed Tuesday. Buechele, a former Rangers third baseman, was the manager at Triple-A Round Rock this season.
Tim Bogar was the interim manager for the final 22 games after Ron Washington resigned. Bogar will interview within the next two weeks.
Buchholz has minor knee surgery: McNeese St. and Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz has undergone minor knee surgery after an inconsistent season.
The operation to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee took place Tuesday, two days after he started the team’s final game. General manager Ben Cherington said Buchholz pitched with the injury throughout the season.
Arizona to interview A’s bench coach Chip Hale: The Arizona Diamondbacks say they have received permission to interview Oakland Athletics bench coach Chip Hale for the team’s vacant manager position.
Hale is a former manager of the Diamondbacks’ Triple-A affiliate in Tucson and was on the big league coaching staff, either as infield coach or third base coach, for Arizona for three seasons. He just completed his third season as Oakland manager Bob Melvin’s bench coach. Before that, he was third base coach for the New York Mets for two seasons.
Johnson and Natera to be replaced by Mets: The New York Mets say they will replace hitting coach Lamar Johnson and assistant hitting coach Luis Natera.
They have been offered jobs in the Mets’ minor league system, New York said Thursday.
Johnson became hitting coach when Dave Hudgens was fired on May 26, and Natera filled the new position of assistant on March 24.
